HOW TO AVOID
THE 8 MOST COMMON
MAILOUT MISTAKES
1. Supply sufficient quantities of inserts
The single most common problem with processing mailouts is running out of inserts. So always provide slightly more items for your mailing than needed (print an extra 5% envelopes and inserts). Restart fees and times delays can be easily avoided if the correct quantities are supplied up front.
2. Provide Bankers “Lick and Stick” envelopes
Self-seal envelopes cannot be mechanically inserted and sealed so specify a “Lick and Stick” envelope to your printer.
3. Print envelopes with “Postage Paid” and return address
Outer envelopes must be printed with “POSTAGE PAID” and a return address to enable lodgement of your mailout at Australia Post, and to obtain the Advertising Mail discount.
4. Use envelopes big enough for the inserts
To avoid the expense of manual processing, inserts must be able to fit comfortably into the envelope provided. Use DLX envelopes (120mm x 235mm lick and stick) instead of DL envelopes.
5. Check compliance for Postage Discounts
To ensure a postage discounts are maximized ensure mail pieces comply with Print Post discount or Barcode discount requirements..
6. Non-standard envelopes cost too much
Large oversized envelopes cost so much more to POST and mail process than standard size “DLX” envelopes. We strongly recommended you use DLX envelopes and save on postage wherever possible.
7. Fold inserts with a “ROLL” fold not a “Z” fold
To enable the mechanical insertion of inserts into envelopes, inserts must be folded so one edge of the fold is a hard edge.
Simply instruct your printer to fold your letters and brochures with a “ROLL FOLD” fold, not a “Z” fold, so it is suitable for mechanical insertion.
8. Check letter address fits window faced envelope
When using a laser printed letter, ensure the layout of your letter when folded, correctly aligns the address portion of the letter and the window of the envelope.
